Lana Kline, owner of Paw & Hand Obedience, has been formally training dogs for competitive obedience since 2004, but has a 40-year history of training and showing horses and training her own dogs to be well-behaved companion dogs. Lana and her husband John have always had their own pack of dogs, including five dogs that they rescued from neglectful homes, shelters or strays.

Lana's personal training credits since she first stepped into a competitive ring in July 2005 include the following AKC titles: three Companion Dog, two Companion Dog Excellent, one Utility Dog, three Rally Novice, three Rally Advanced, one Novice Agility, one Novice Jumpers, one Open Agility, and three Canine Good Citizen awards. Her UKC titles include: three United Companion Dog and two United Companion Dog Excellent. Lana did not compete for any new titles from November 2007 until July 2009 , as she was too involved in opening her massage practice. She began competing again in July 2009. Her Novice A dog earned his Utility title in November 2009.
Lana first assisted with basic and advanced obedience classes at a local kennel for 16 months in 2004/2005. That experience taught her that she loved teaching obedience.
Paw & Hand initially began in 2005 as a dog show vending business, but the intent was always to add canine massage as a service, and to evolve into teaching and training obedience when Lana felt ready.
That time came in the Spring of 2007 when her own obedience instructor, Betsy Scapicchio from Top Dog Obedience School in Flanders, NJ, began to strongly encourage Lana to teach pet obedience in preparation for teaching competitive obedience. Lana taught private pet obedience lessons in students' homes or businesses in the Muncy, Millville, and Bloomsburg areas in 2007 and for two sessions in the fall/winter of 07/08 Lana assisted Anita Zack with pet obedience classes at Top Dog Obedience School. In the Spring of 2008, her private competitive students and training buddies began requesting classes and the first class was offered in June 2008.
We have been searching for a suitable training building or even a weekly hall for 3 1/2 years. Until then, classes will continue to be small, private, and by referral or invitation only. Currently we do not publicly advertise.
If you are interested in taking a class, but have not been referred, please contact Lana at 570-772-1414 or lana@pawandhand.com. so that we can meet you and your dog and/or discuss your class options.
Lana and her husband John host the classes, and currently have six dogs of their own. Their son Urie attends the University of Pittsburgh Honors College where he also plays snare drum in the PITT Marching Band.
In addition to teaching and training, Lana is a state licensed and nationally certified massage therapist and a Certified Reiki Master Teacher (Level IIIb).
